Hagalotsava Ratha

A special cover was released on 20th November 2019 at Banavasi on the Hagalotsava Ratha.

 

 Madhukeshwara Temple of Banavasi in Uttara Kannada dates back to the 9th Century. There is a week long Chariot festival held every year in March-April. There are 4 chariots of which one is a small chariot specially designed for children and is drawn during the day time called Hagalotsava Ratha. Children play a dominant role in decorating and drawing this chariot. Unique feature of this festival is the involvement of people from all sections of the society.
