Volga Bulgaria

Russia Post issued a stamp on 21st May 2022 to celebrate 1100th Anniversary of the adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria depicting the White Mosque in Bolgar.

Volga Bulgaria adopted Islam in 922. The most important event that marked the establishment of Islam in Bulgaria was an exchange of embassies between Almysh and Baghdad Caliph al-Muktadir. Despite the fact that Islam was quite widespread in the Volga region, the achievement of this embassy was the “diplomatic recognition” of Bulgaria as an Islamic country. Since that time, no geographical writing could get along without mentioning the Bulgars, and ties with countries of Islam developed and strengthened.

Today is World Postcard day!

In Austria-Hungary, Dr. Emanuel Herrmann (a professor of Economics from Vienna) wrote an article in the Neue Freie Presse pointing out that the time and effort involved in writing a letter was out of proportion to the size of the message sent. He suggested that a more practical and cheaper method should be implemented for shorter, more efficient communications.

His recommendations impressed the Austrian Post, who put them to practice on October 1st 1869, resulting in the Correspondenz-Karte, a light-brown 8.5x12cm rectangle with space for the address on the front, and room for a short message on the back. The postcard featured an imprinted 2 Kreuzer stamp on top right corner, costing half the price of a normal letter.

The postcard was born!

So Why not write a Postcard to your near and dear ones, your friend and surprise them. Yes, it may have been long back since they have received a card by Post and they will be thrilled to get one.
