Ekaterinburg

Russia Post released a stamp to celebrate 300th Anniversary of Ekaterinburg  on 25th May 2023 with an image of the monument to the founders of Ekaterinburg Vasily Tatishchev and Georg Wilhelm de Gennin and a panorama of the modern part of the city.

Ekaterinburg is the administrative center of the Sverdlovsk Region, the fourth most populous city in Russia. It was founded as a fortress plant on the Iset River in 1723.

Decorative and Applied Arts of Russia series. Wood carving

Russia Post released a souvenir sheet on Wood Carving of Russia on 25th May 2023 depicting Bogorodskoe carving, Abramtsevo-Kudrino carving, Northern carving and Tatyanka carving.

Wood carving is one of the types of decorative and applied arts, an ancient folk craft. Abramtsevo-Kudrino wood carving originated in the Abramtsevo estate near Moscow, in the village of Kudrino; its creator is considered to be Vasily Vornoskov. The most complex type of wood carving is sculptural. Its separate subtype is Bogorodskoe carving. Its center is the village of Bogorodskoe in the Sergiev Posad District of the Moscow Region. Wood carving in the Tatyanka style was created by Shamil Sasykov in 1990 and patented as his own unique invention. The chief place of origin of the Pomor dove, or the Arkhangelsk Bird of Happiness, is considered the Arkhangelsk Province.

KARNAPEX - 2024 - Postcrossing Meetup.

A Postcrossing Meetup was held by the Postcrossers of Bengaluru at the venue of  Karnapex - 2024, State Level Philately Exhibition held at Bengaluru. On 7th a meetup was arranged by the Postcrossers,  a card was designed for the occasion and released at the venue. Later it was signed by all the Postcrossers and was posted to other Postcrossers all over India and abroad.

Guinness World Record Seashell Art Museum: It was established by Dr. Radha Mallappa in 2017. This Museum is located at Chamundi hill road, Mysuru. The Museum houses more than 300 pieces of seashell are made by Dr. Radha mallappa herself. The museum exhibits where meticulously crafted over span of 4 decades. The 22 feet Ganesha idol made using seashells has entered the Guinness Book of World record. She is an expert in converting waste to art. She has received many awards which includes award bestowed by Karnataka Karakushala Nigama, kittur Rani Chennamma award and Honorary Doctorate Degree.

Kaffipudi Sakamma: Smt. Sakamma, popularly known as "KAFFIPUDI SAKAMMA" and the proud owner of the shop "SAKAMMA'S COFFEE" from Somvarpet, Kodagu district has the credit of raising the fame of commercial crop coffee to National and International level.In 1920 she set up a coffee curing unit at Bull Temple road in Basavanagudi and thus contributed in bringing the taste of coffee to Bengaluru. The locality in which she used to reside in Bengaluru,is now recognised as "SAKAMMA GARDEN".

Child marriage is a Punishable offence: Child marriage is a social evil which scuttles professional and personal aspirations of the budding minds and impedes the growth of society is a punishable act. Marriage of girls below 18 and boys below 21 years of age is prohibited under law. To prevent child marriage the government is organising various public and legal awareness programs.

Millets Smart Food: Millets are small-grained cereals and have similar nutrient content to other major cereals. Millets are great grain for diabetes. They are high in fibre and help in weight loss process. Millets are the powerhouse of Nutrition containing various essential nutrients such as iron zinc manganese calcium etc. Being gluten-free they are great for those who have gluten sensitivity. Millets can be used in making various dishes like roti, dosa, idli, khichdi. ladoos halwa etc.

Ragimudde or Finger Millet Ball:  Ragimudde is a wholesale diabetic friendly recipe and is very unique in the way that it is meant to be swallowed and not chewed. It as only two ingredients ragi ( millet) flour and hot water. The mixture is cooked until it creates smooth dough which is then shaped into balls. This moist finger millet balls is not only quick to prepare but also has good health benefits. It should be served along with Saru (thin stews made up of greens/soppu with sprouted grams, meat or vegetables) or with curry, chutney and sambar.

Jolada Rotti: Jolada Rotti is a traditional food of Karnataka which is made with jowar(or sorghum) flour. It is cooked in an iron Skilled. It is very popular in North Karnataka, where it is eaten with ennegai (eggplants stuffed with spices) or chutney. Joladarotti has rough texture.

Hopscotch or Kuntebille: It is a popular outdoor game that can be played with several players or alone. The player tosses a small object into umbered spaces of a pattern of rectangles outlined on the ground and  then hops of jumps through the spaces to retreive the object.,

Spinning the Top or Lattu:Spinning the top or lattu is a fun game played across many parts of India. It is known as bugari in Kannada. It is an interesting traditional game where a wooden top is made to spin. There are grooves in the lower half of the top and a nail at the bottom to spin on. A string is wrapped around the gross to launch the top and make it spin.

Kambla: Kambala is a buffalo race, popular in coastal Karnataka. Two pairs of buffalo compete in this event. Each pair is driven by a farmer. The buffaloes involved in this activity must sprint across muddy, slushy fields.Coconuts and bananas used to be the price for playing this sport.

Lagori:Lagori also known as 7 stones is a popular traditional game. The game involves 2 teams. Flat stones/ wooden blocks are piled. One team knocks down the pile with the ball and attempts to restore the file. The other team throws the ball at the opposing team members. The more players on each team the greater the fun.
