Paramekkavu Rajendran

A Special Cover on the Elephant Paramekkavu Rajendran was released on 16th October 2021 at Thrissur.

The chief attraction of the Thrissur Pooram, an annual temple festival in Kerala is the participation of large number of caparisoned Elephants and therefore, Paramekkavu Rajendran, the Elelphant who holds the record for participating in most number of Thrissur Poorams holds a special place in the hearts of all Pooram and Elephant ehthusiasts. Rajendran's tryst with destiny began in 1955, when he was transported from Nilambur forests of kerala to become the property of Paramekkavu Bhagavathy temple, one of hte major participants in Thrissur Pooram. his amiable nature, big broad ears and height of 9ft.3 inches won him the most celebrated temple elephant of Kerala 'Gajarathnam Guruvayur Kesavan'. This star pachyderm made his presence felt in the national arena when he was chose to parade in the openiong ceremony of the Asian Games in 1982 in Delhi. He was accorder the title of 'Gajarathnam' by Kanchi Sankaracharya Sree Jayendra Saraswath. Rajendran died in October 2019 after participating in 50 Thrissur Poorams.

Sri.Appikatla Joseph

A Special cover on Sri.Appikatla Joseph, a freedom fighter was released on 31st August 2021 at Vijayawada.

Sri. Appikalla Joseph, was born in Ventrapragada Village, Krishna District on 15.07.1917. He participated in the Quit India Movement during the BritIsh Rule. He went to jail many times during that agitation. He worked with Bezawada Gapal Reddy (Andhra Tagore), Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy (Former President of India), Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu (Andhra Kesari), NG Ranga and Gowthu Lachhanna. He was an elected member of the First Parliament for the period 1949-1952 and was also elected as the Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council for the period 1966-1972. He played a key role in the establishment of Railway Junction at Vijayawada. He established ABM Upper Primary School with Boys hostel at Lambadipet, Vijayawada.

Unsung Heroes of Jammu and Kashmir.

Two Special Covers were released on 13th October 2021 at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Kashmir on the Unsung Heroes of J&K-Sarvanand Koul ‘Premi’ and Mohd. Maqbool Sherwani.

Sarvanand Koul ‘Premi’ was a famous Kashmiri litterateur, social reformer and Gandhian while Mohd. Maqbool Sherwani was the person who saved Srinagar from raiders (Kabilies) attack in 1947 merely at an age of 19.

Dhruv Kundu

 A Special Cover to honour Dhruv Kundu was released at Katihar (Bihar) on 1st November 2021.

Dhruv Kundu,  an unsung hero of the Quit India Movement of 1942. Dhrub Kundu sacrificed his life while he was leading  revolutionaries to hoist the National Flag at a police station in Katihar. He was just thirteen when he embraced martyrdom. The cancellation depicts the Saheed Smarak, a memorial of the Quit India Movement of 1942, at Patna

Sri Alluri Sitarama Raju Memorial.

A Special cover on the Sri Alluri Sitarama Raju Memorial was released on 23rd August 2021 at Devi Peta.

After his first attack on Chintapalle Police Station, Sriramaraju went to Krishnadevipela Police Station on 23.08.1922. Sriramaraju collected small arms and ammunition from Krishnadevipeta Police Station without much resistance from the police. The District Magistrate Handerson sent a report to the Chief Secretary. wherein he reported that the attacks on Chintapalle and Krishnadevipela police stations are mainly to take away arms and ammunition, but not with any motive for plunder. He also reported that though there is a linkage with the civil disobedience movement with these attacks on police stations, the main reason for this revolt is yet to be known.
