A special cover was released In commemoration of 60th Anniversary of Indian Naval Air Squadron 550 on 17th June 2019 at Ernakulam.
Indian Navy Air Squadron 550, "Flying Flsh" was commissioned on 17th June 1959 as the first Naval Air Squadron of the Indian Navy. The "Fly Fish" has operated 14 different aircraft, Including amphibians, helicopters and fighters over the last 60 years. At present the Squadron operates Pipistrel Virus Microlight and Dornier 228 aircraft. The latter forms the back bone of the maritime reconnaissance to maintain a constant vigil on our southern maritime borders and undertake training of Navy's fledging MR pilots and observers.
