Apple Trees

Russia Post released a set of four stamps on 26th March 2019 depicting  apple varieties like Bogatyr, Bely filling, Antonovka ordinary and Orlik.

The apple tree is one of the most ancient fruit crops, it came to Russia in the 10th – 11th centuries from Byzantium. Already in the XII century, on the orders of Yuri Dolgoruky, the first gardens were laid around Moscow.

Russia Post released a stamp to celebrate International year of Dmitri Mendeleev Periodic table on 19th March 2019 which is overprint on the 2009 souvenir sheet " The 175th anniversary of birth D.I.Mendeleev.

Indian Naval Air Squadron 550

A special cover was released In commemoration of 60th Anniversary of Indian Naval Air Squadron 550 on 17th June 2019 at Ernakulam.

Indian Navy Air Squadron 550, "Flying Flsh" was commissioned on 17th June 1959 as the first Naval Air Squadron of the Indian Navy. The "Fly Fish" has operated 14 different aircraft, Including amphibians, helicopters and fighters over the last 60 years. At present the Squadron operates Pipistrel Virus Microlight and Dornier 228 aircraft. The latter forms the back bone of the maritime reconnaissance to maintain a constant vigil on our southern maritime borders and undertake training of Navy's fledging MR pilots and observers.

Summer Solstice

A special cover was released to commemorate the occasion of summer solstice on 21st May 2019 at Chennai.

The summer solstice occurs when the earth's tilt towards the sun is at a maximum. Therefore, on the day of the summer solstice, the day time will be longest in the northern hemisphere. The summer solstice occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of cancer, which is located at 23.5° latitude North.

Salu Marada Thimmakka

A special cover was released to honour Salu Marada Thimmakka on 26th June 2019 at Bengaluru for her invaluable services to save trees.

Popularly known as Salu Marada Thimmakka, she was born in Tumkuru district in a poor family she did not get a chance to study and was engaged in grazing of cattle and sheep. Married to Bikkala Chikkayya they remained childless even after many years after their marriage. So she started planting and nurturing trees like her own children. At the age of 107, she is spreading awareness of importance of Forest, Soil, Wildlife and Water Conservation along with her foster son Sri. B.N Umesh. Salu Marada Thimmakka is recipient of several awards and honours. She was confirmed with Padmashri Award in 2019 by Government of India.
