A Special Cover on the Atreyapuram Pootharekulu was released on 21st August 2021 at Atreyapuram.
Pootharekulu is a popular Indian sweet from Andhra Pradesh. The name of the recipe literally means 'coated sheet'. In Telugu - pootha means 'coating' and reku means 'sheet'. The sweet is wrapped in a wafer-thin rice starch layer resembling paper and is stuffed with jaggery, dry fruits and nuts. The sweet is popular for festivals, religious occasions and weddings in the Telugu states. It is believed that Atreyapuram has the history of making pootharekulu since three centuries as a cottage industry, where around 400 families are dependent on the making and marketing of this recipe. The annual turnover of the cottage industry is estimated 10 be around Rs. 3 crores.
