India Post released a stamp on Shiv Ram Hari Rajguru, a freedom fighter,  on 22nd March 2013.

FDC and Brochure - Price hike ?

It has been in the news that the price of Indian FDC and Brochure will be hiked to Rs.5/- each from April 2013 by India Post.

Heros of the Russian Federation

Russia released a set of 5 stamps depicting Russian heroes on 22nd February 2013.

The stamps depict

Yuriy Dmitriev (1978-2002) - A military engineer and Captain.
 

Oleg G. Ilyin (1967-2004) - An Officer of the Office of the "B" ("Pennant") Special Purpose Center of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

Nicholas Sainovich Maidan (1956-2000) - A Pilot,  the Commander of the 325th separate military transport helicopter regiment and Colonel.

Evgeny Chernyshev (1963-2010) - Head of the Federal Fire Service Fire Center for Crisis Management Emergency Situations of Russia in Moscow and the Colonel of internal service.

Valery selfish (1959-2000) - Captain, Deputy Chief of the Office of SWAT to combat organized crime in ATC Bryansk region.

Jhulelal Sahib

India Post released a stamp on Jhulelal Sahib on 17th March 2013. Jhulelal Sahib, also known as Darya Lal or Jinda Peer is the community God of the Sindhi Community.

Malayala Manorama

India Post issued a stamp to commemorate 125 years of Malayala Manorama on 16th March 2013, a very famous and highest circulated newspaper in Malayalam.

Birth Centenary of A.I.Pokryshkina

Russia Post released a stamp to celebrate the birth centenary of A.I.Pokryshkina (1913-1985) on 22nd February 2013.

He was a Soviet flying ace and Marshal of Aviation.He commanded the 16th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment and the 9th Guards Fighter Division during the World War II. The stamp features a portrait of Alexander Pokryshkina and aircraft "Cobra."

India's first all-women Post Office.

Kapil Sibal, Minister of Communications and IT, has has inaugurated India’s first all-women post office at Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi on Women’s Day. (8th March 2013)

Sahir Ludhianvi

India Post released a stamp on Sahir Ludhianvi on 8th March 2013.He was a famous Urdu Poet and Lyricist. He had worked for many Hindi films. He won the Filmfare award twice and also the the Padma Shri award winner.

Officer's Training Academy, Chennai

India Post released a stamp on Officer's Training Academy, Chennai on 7th March 2013.

State awards of the Russian Federation

Russia Post released a set of 3 stamp decipting State awards of the Russian Federation on 18th February 2013.

Order of St. Catherine.
The Order of St. Catherine the Great established on 3 May 2012. It is awarded to renowned for their high moral and spiritual attitude and compassion citizens of the Russian Federation and foreign citizens for their outstanding contribution to peacekeeping, humanitarian and charitable activities, preservation of cultural heritage.The first stamp shows the star and badge of the Order of St. Catherine.

Order of Alexander Nevsky
Order of Alexander Nevsky established September 7, 2010. It is awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation for outstanding personal contribution to the Fatherland, faithful service, and high achievements in strengthening the country's defense, as well as citizens of the Russian Federation for outstanding individual achievement in various industries, research, social, cultural, educational and other socially useful activity. The second stamp depicts the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

Order of Suvorov
Order of Suvorov was established in September 7, 2010. It is awarded  the chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the efficient organization and management of operations by groups of troops, and to ensure that no aggression against the Russian Federation and its allies.The third stamp depicts the Order of Suvorov.

3 Para (Special Forces)

India Post released a stamp of 3 Para (special forces) on 2nd March 2013.

It's 5 Years..........

Hello! Dear Readers, friends, contributors and well wishers, 

 

It has been exactly 5 years since my first post at this blog, though I had been using this blog as a part of my earlier website which I had to abandon with the end of Geocities.I continued with my blog as blog entry was easy to post and maintain than a website and preferred by readers.

I have been able to post in intervals about Indian and Russian stamps, Stamps on Ships which is my theme and interesting tidbits on Philately and in the course been able to make friends and contacts allover. I have enjoyed this journey and hope to continue the same.

I thank all my Readers, co-bloggers, philatelists, friends and well-wishers for all your support and help and for providing news from all over and encouraging me. I look forward to your continued support and welcome all your comments and suggestions.

350 years of Penza.

Russia Post released a stamp to commemorate 350 years of Penza on 8th February 2013.The stamp shows the sculpture "Pervoposelenets" and the emblem of the city of Penza.

Wild Goats and Sheep of Russia

Russia Post released a set of 6 stamp under the series Fauna of Russia of Wild goat and sheep on 30th January 2013.

Bighorn Sheep

A large cloven-hoofed mammal rather dense and powerfully built, with a low and strong limbs, thick, short neck, small head and slightly protruding from the fur tail. Bighorn sheep can reach a weight of 70-120 kg, body length of 165-175 cm, height at the withers - 90-100 cm mass horns especially large males can reach 14 pounds. They inhabit inhabit Lake Baikal, Siberia east of the Lena River, the middle and northern parts of the Far East, Kamchatka and Putorana Plateau (Norilsk mountain) on the right bank of the lower Yenisei.

Wild Goat

Progenitor of domestic goat - wild goat reaches 120-160 cm body length, it is added to the tail length of 15-20 cm height at the shoulder is 70-100 cm, weight - 25-95 kg. The females are slightly curved horns, relatively slender, 20-30 cm long, the male horns much more - up to 130 cm. Bezoar goat habitat area covers parts of West Asia and stretches from Anatolia via the Caucasus to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Bezoar goats are found in the mountains and in the desert areas and wooded areas.

Arhar

The largest representative of wild sheep - argali, whose length is 120-200 cm, height at the withers 90-120 cm, weight 65-180 kg. Depending on the size and color of the body there are several sub-types. The largest is the Pamir argali mountain sheep, or Marco Polo. Both males and females have long horns, but males may be up to 13% of body weight. Argali lives in mountainous areas of the Central Asia and southern Siberia. Listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.

Caucasian Tur

In the Caucasus Mountains at an altitude of 2500-4500 meters above sea level dwells Caucasian tur. In summer, these representatives of mountain goats grazing in the meadows, in the winter part of animals is in the Highlands, others - go down to the woods. Body length of 120-180 cm, height at the withers 78-112 cm color of reddish-gray or brownish-red. Horn of adult males from the Western and Central Caucasus crescent, their ends are bent downwards and inwards.
