Uprising in the Sobibor Death Camp

Russia Post released a stamp on 30th October 2015 decimating  the monument, which is a figure of a woman with a child at the site of the former Nazi camp “Sobibor”

Sobibór was one of the largest extermination camps located in occupied Poland during the Great Patriotic War.The camp was the site of a mass uprising organized by Lt. Alexander Pechersky, a Soviet POW, on 14 October 1943. However, only 13 prisoners succeeded in crossing the fence and managed to join up with the partisans. Shortly after the revolt was crushed, the Germans closed Sobibór, destroyed all buildings and and planted the site over with trees.
