A special cover was released on 2nd October 2019 to celebrate the Visit of Mahatma Gandhi to Tumakuru.
Gandhiji visited Tumakuru during 1927. He stayed in Govt. High school, B
H Road Tumakuru which was inaugurated by the then Maharaja of Mysore
Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV in 1900. He delivered a public speech in the high
school ground on July 16th 1927. During his speech, he thanked all
particularly the reception committee. He spoke about the poor students
fund named after him. He told "I am also poor myself and relative of the
poor" (Badavara Bhandhu).The school building where Gandhiji stayed is
now known as Gandhi Bhavan (Gandhi Smaraka Bhavana).
